Thanks to Tumblr’s new image viewing system, these character designs I posted last night were getting all squashed and strange. I’ve re-posted them both with click-throughs to my deviantart where you can view them at full-scale.
Hey everyone, been a while. I’ve been busy with school as I have multiple projects going on at once, but that means that a lot more new work will be finished soon.
This is a turnaround I completed recently. The idea was that this character was a sort of post-apocalyptic ‘Beyond Thunderdome’ type, and in a stadium setting would be one of a list of characters a hero would be required to defeat in order to advance to the next round.
I really wanted to focus on creating an organic-looking armor based off of the exoskeletons of beetles and other insects. The root word for her name is actually a species of scorpion, Tityus Obscurus, which is known to be among the deadliest of the scorpion family.

Website Update!
So, if anyone’s dropped over to the old website in the past few months, you may have noticed a few broken links and a sorely lacking update to the actual artwork. Well, I took quality time out of my day yesterday to give it a huge makeover. The contact information has been updated along with new pieces added to the portfolio section and a new shop link on the navigation bar. I’ll be adding new pieces as they are finished in the coming weeks, so you should go and take a look!
My etsy store just got a huge update with some things I have available for sale! It’s worth taking a look, I promise. All prints are 13” x 19” for the time being and around the very affordable price of 20.00 USD. Smaller limited edition prints and postcards will be coming in the next few months, and Christmas specials as well. So, definitely check back.

This piece was done in honor of one of my closest friend’s birthday, though it was practically two weeks ago. I actually had fun going through her tumblr and picking a few images at random to inspire what you see above. The passing of my friend’s Grandmother was a second inspiration. I wanted to create a soothing palette and keep the subject matter on the lighter side to show that there is always hope, and things do get better.
I love you, Danielle!
So this is that second piece I was talking about that was almost done. It was inspired by a character of mine, and it sort of evolved from there. The idea was that these lions were infected by a disease that made them rabid, and broke free from their chains to attack those in this palace complex. This character transformed into a sort of royal guard for the palace.
I enjoyed doing something with more perspective and background. It was definitely a challenge I’m not used to.

This is a piece I have been working on for a while, along with a second piece. Both have varied subject matter, but I wanted to accomplish a sense of background that some of my previous work has lacked. It was a fun little thing that I learned a lot from. The second piece will be finished in a few days, so look for another update.

This is something I did to enter into a contest. I tried to do something really different than my normal portrait type work, so I hope you guys enjoy it! It’s a bigger file, so I’d suggest looking at the full version if you can.

This is the finished version of Dukes. This is essentially my first character design ever, so I limited myself to just the one viewpoint instead of doing a turn-around. I’m pleased with the outcome, although I hope to improve my design capabilities throughout the next couple of characters.

So, I almost never post wips on this blog, mainly because I like keeping things neat and organized and I have a separate blog for those sorts of things, but I figured what the hey. I promised everyone some new artwork, but I was sick this past week, so I didn’t get as much done as I had wanted to. This is my apology and a teaser for an upcoming project I’m undertaking. This summer I have high expectations for myself as far as art accomplishments go, so I wanted to start with something I’ve been meaning to do for a long, long time. In the coming weeks, I’ll be posting character designs as well as concept art for a story a friend of mine and I have been collaborating on for almost nine years now. So, keep your eyes peeled for new stuff coming your way in these next few months!
The above sneak peek is a preview of the first character, Dukes! :)
